Github not recognizing CSS styles

Currently working on a website to showcase the games I've developed, but encountering issues with applying my CSS. The code can be found here.

As a novice in HTML and CSS coding, I've tried numerous codes and tutorials without success.

Answer №1

Here is your corrected CSS Code

background-image: linear-gradient((rgba(0,0,0,0.5), rgba(0,150,0,0.5));
h1,p{
  color: white;
  text-align: center;
}

Your code is incorrect as the background-image property should be targeted to a specific tag. For the desired effect on the whole page, the proper format would be:

body{
background-image: linear-gradient(rgba(0,0,0,0.5), rgba(0,150,0,0.5));
}
h1,p{
  color: black;
  text-align: center;
}

You also have an extra set of parentheses in linear-gradiant.

Answer №2

The issue lies in the initial line of your stylesheet, style.css. It is not valid to declare CSS attributes without a designated selector, rendering all your styles ineffective! Try either commenting out that line to witness your styles take effect, or add a selector for your background property.
