What is the best way to increase the spacing between buttons in a Bootstrap navigation bar?

Can anyone guide me on how to add space between each button in this Navigation Bar? I want them to be separated, similar to this example. I am using bootstrap 5.

 <nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light shadow-sm bg-body">
<div class="container">
    <a class="navbar-brand" href="">
        <h3>Brand</h3>
    </a>
    <button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-bs-toggle="collapse" data-bs-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation"><span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span></button>
    <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
        <ul class="navbar-nav ms-auto mb-2 mb-lg-0">
            <li class="nav-item"><a class="btn btn-primary shadow-sm mr-1" aria-current="page"
            href="{% url 'About' %}">About</a></li>
            <li class="nav-item"><a class="btn btn-primary shadow-sm mr-1"
                href="{% url 'login' %}">Log in</a></li>
            <li class="nav-item"><a class="btn btn-primary shadow-sm mr-1"
                href="{% url 'register' %}">Sign Up</a></li>
        </ul>
    </div>
</div>

Answer №1

When spacing elements, it is important to add margin between them. This should only be done when the navbar is in a horizontal position to avoid affecting the mobile menu. Additionally, some bottom margin is added to create space for mobile devices.

@media (min-width: 992px) {
  .navbar-nav li {
    margin-left: 5px;
  }
}

.navbar-nav li {
  margin-bottom: 5px;
}

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light shadow-sm bg-body">
  <div class="container">
    <a class="navbar-brand" href="">
      <h3>Brand</h3>
    </a>
    <button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-bs-toggle="collapse" data-bs-target="#navbarSupportedContent" aria-controls="navbarSupportedContent" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation"><span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span></button>
    <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
      <ul class="navbar-nav ms-auto mb-2 mb-lg-0">
        <li class="nav-item"><a class="btn btn-primary shadow-sm" aria-current="page" href="{% url 'About' %}">About</a></li>
        <li class="nav-item"><a class="btn btn-primary shadow-sm" href="{% url 'login' %}">Log in</a></li>
