adjust the vertical size of a specified container

I am attempting to have the green div fill the height regardless of the content in the yellow div.

Both the green and yellow divs are contained within the grey div.

Refer to the following code for clarification: http://jsbin.com/ofelov/1/edit

(As for the title of this query, I am unsure what it should be, so I apologize for any inaccuracies and feel free to make adjustments)

Answer №1

It would simplify things greatly if the yellow box was positioned inside the green box. Is there a specific purpose for having the yellow box outside?

Answer №2

According to Chris Coyier:

For more information on achieving equal height blocks in rows, visit [http://css-tricks.com/equal-height-blocks-in-rows/][1]

While there are numerous methods available, searching for 'javascript equal columns' will yield a variety of options. Javascript is often considered the most effective solution for handling the issue of floating divs that require equal heights. While tables and css can also be used, it is generally advised to avoid using tables for layout purposes.
