What is the best way to change an ASP.NET MVC Navigation Bar from vertical to horizontal?

On my MVC5 page, I am facing an issue where the navigation bar options are not displayed side-by-side but are collapsed vertically. Here is a snippet of my bootstrap.css file:

.navbar-nav {
    display: -webkit-box;
    display: -ms-flexbox;
    display: flex;
    -webkit-box-orient: horizontal;
    -webkit-box-direction: normal;
    -ms-flex-direction: column;
    flex-direction: column;
    padding-left: 0;
    margin-bottom: 0;
    list-style: none;
}

    .navbar-nav .nav-link {
        padding-right: 0;
        padding-left: 0;
    }

    .navbar-nav .dropdown-menu {
        position: static;
        float: none;
    }

.navbar-text {
    display: inline-block;
    padding-top: 0.5rem;
    padding-bottom: 0.5rem;
}

.navbar-collapse {
    -ms-flex-preferred-size: 100%;
    flex-basis: 100%;
    -webkit-box-flex: 1;
    -ms-flex-positive: 1;
    flex-grow: 1;
    -webkit-box-align: center;
    -ms-flex-align: center;
    align-items: center;
}

The issue does not stem from the bootstrap library itself. The default navbar that appears when you start a new project is just the standard one provided. If you wish to switch it to a left-aligned navbar, there are various navbar classes offered by bootstrap for you to utilize. For example, you can modify the class attribute to

class="navbar navbar-left"

Alternatively, you can refer to the BootStrap Documentation for more information.
