What are the best practices for utilizing pre-defined CSS classes in Vue.js libraries?

I don't have much experience with CSS, but I'm really eager to customize the appearance of my chart. The chart is generated by a vue.js library and comes with pre-defined CSS classes. However, I'm uncertain about how to access and modify them.

The documentation explains the usage of CSS with this library in detail: https://i.sstatic.net/yQt7O.png

Answer №1

Understanding the entire context simply from the visuals you provided is a challenge. However, it seems feasible to customize the default styles utilized by the library. This can be achieved effortlessly if you are aware of the specific class names.

Here's an illustration:

<style scoped>
year: {
    display: block;
}
</style>

Answer №2

Make sure to check out the scoped styles documentation.

To override a child component's styles, you will need a "deep" selector.

For example, if you want to modify the styles of a child component, your CSS should be like this:

.vtc-statistik /deep/ .vtc {

}

The issue is that scoped styles are compiled as follows:

.daten[data-v-bla-bla]{
...
}

b[data-v-bla-bla]{
...
}

/* and .vtc-statistik with nested .vtc */
.vtc-statistik .vtc[data-v-bla-bla] {
...
}

In order for it to work correctly, it should be compiled as:

/* */
.vtc-statistik[data-v-bla-bla] .vtc{
...
}

Here, data-v-bla-bla represents a unique identifier for your component.

By the way, nested styles are not officially part of CSS specifications. Consider using SCSS, PostCSS, or Less for processing them.
