The impact of Opacity CSS on child elements in web design

Struggling to show an error message when a user disables JavaScript. In my current work, I have two div layers - one covering the entire page and another on top to display the warning message. However, I'm facing issues with the opacity settings affecting both layers. I've attempted solutions from previous questions but haven't been successful. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

To fix the issue, simply move the message outside of the faded container ...

Before:

<div id="fadeMe">
    <div id="center">You have javascript disabled.</div>
</div>

After:

<div id="fadeMe">
</div>
<div id="center">You have javascript disabled.</div>

Answer №3

An issue arises with the usage of opacity as it affects all child elements within the container, rather than just the targeted element.

    opacity

This results in any further opacity adjustments being a fraction of the parent element's opacity.

To resolve this issue in your specific case, simply move the popup div outside of the fadeMe div.

    <div id="fadeMe"></div>
    <div id="center">You have javascript disabled.</div>
