Arranging images in layers using jQuery or CSS

My current challenge involves two overlapping images. I am looking for a solution where clicking on the back image will bring it forward.

I prefer a simple method that is also mobile-friendly since I am using Bootstrap for responsiveness. What suggestions do you have to achieve this?

Answer №1

To enhance the interactivity of your elements, consider adding a tabindex and utilizing CSS's :focus pseudo-class. You can also incorporate a bit of javascript to trigger the focus effect on mouseover.

$(".image").on("mouseover", function() { $(this).focus(); });
.image {
    width: 100px;
    height: 100px;
    border: 1px solid red;
    background:red;
    z-index:1;
    position:absolute;
}
.image:focus {
    z-index:10;
}

.imageOne {
    margin-left: 60px;
    background: black;
}

.imageTwo {
    margin-left: 30px;
    background: blue;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="imageOne image click-to-top" tabindex="1"></div>
<div class="imageTwo image click-to-top" tabindex="2"></div>
<div class="imageThree image click-to-top" tabindex="3"></div>

Answer №2

Here is the solution you were looking for:

Check out this JS Fiddle link

To make it work, you'll need to adjust your CSS accordingly.

.imageTwo {
    width: 100px;
    height: 100px;
    border: 1px solid red;
    background:red;
    position: absolute;
}

.imageOne {
    width: 100px;
    height: 100px;
    margin-left: 40px;
    position: absolute;
    background: black;
}

Answer №3

To make your .image element stay in place, update the CSS position property to fixed. Simply include the following code snippet:

position: fixed;

Answer №4

For more detailed information, please take a look at this article:

$('.imageTwo').click(function() {
  $(this).addClass("opacity");

});
$('.imageOne').click(function() {
  $('.imageTwo').removeClass("opacity");

});
.image {
  width: 100px;
  height: 100px;
  border: 1px solid red;
  background: red;
}
.imageOne {
  margin-left: 40px;
  position: absolute;
  background: black;
}
.opacity {
  opacity: 0.99;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="imageOne image click-to-top"></div>
<div class="imageTwo image click-to-top"></div>
