Is it problematic to use non-standard file extensions for stylesheets, such as .php
or .less
instead of .css
?
I am curious if this practice may cause issues with older browsers or mobile devices, and whether it impacts the caching of the file.

If you want to display CSS on your website, you can either use PHP to send the header like this:
header('Content-Type: text/css');
or configure your server to recognize the file extension as a CSS mime type.
Regardless of the file extension, browsers will read the file correctly as long as the mime type is set to CSS.
