What is the proper way to align the menu?

I am currently working on a project that involves integrating a menu (with the background only visible on the left side) and an article template together. The menu can be found here, while the article template is located here. I have tried to combine them here, but I am facing issues with the positioning. Whenever the menu is in the correct position, the article appears below it, and vice versa. Can anyone provide assistance with this issue?

Answer №1

From what I gather, you're looking to eliminate the left margin of the menu and align it exactly with the article.

To accomplish this, just apply the following CSS styles to your menu div:

position: fixed;
top: 0;
left: 0;

Answer №2

Styling with CSS:

// To keep your menu fixed on the left side
#menu{ //styles for your menu
position:fixed; //added to fix the position
width:300px; //setting width of 300px
min-width:300px; // unnecessary, but kept it as per your original code
left:0;
top:0;
height:100%;

}

#other_content{ //content adjacent to the menu
margin-left:300px; //pushing content next to the menu
//add other styles here
}

Here's how I envision your HTML structure based on the style above:

<body>
<div id="menu"></div>
<div id="other_content"></div>
</body>
