What is the method for connecting the text to its parent element in SVG?

I have put together a demo at https://codepen.io/anon/pen/rzLEQX, but I am trying to figure out how to ensure that the text is contained within the 'g' container with the id of "g12". Do I need to use variables x and y for this?

  <g id="g12">
    <title>Header 12</title>
    <desc>Text 12</desc>
      <path id="path16" style="fill:#ffffff;fill-opacity:1;fill-rule:nonzero;stroke:#231f20;stroke-width:1;stroke-linecap:butt;stroke-linejoin:miter;stroke-miterlimit:10;stroke-dasharray:none;stroke-opacity:1" d="M 482.25,470.173 H 260.693 V 607.898 H 482.25 Z" />
    <text x="30" y="90"  fill="#ED6E46" font-size="100" font-family="'Leckerli One', cursive">Watermelon</text>
  </g>

Answer №1

When working with SVG, the <g> element is used to create a logical or descriptive grouping of elements. Unlike in HTML where elements within a <div> tag will be affected by its position and size, elements inside a <g> tag do not automatically shift on the page.

In order to physically move an element in SVG, you need to manually adjust its coordinate values to reposition it. For example, if you are working with the <text> element, changing the values of x and y will move it accordingly. Additionally, you have the option to use the transform attribute to adjust the position of an element.

To address your query: yes, you will need to modify the x and y values to move elements in SVG.
