What is the best way to incorporate progressive JPEG images onto a website?

I am currently working on a website called winni.in that is built using Java, Html, and Javascript. I would like to incorporate progressive image rendering upon page load, but I lack the necessary knowledge. I have come across and explored the following resources:

Although I have reviewed the above links, I still struggle with implementing the concept of progressive image rendering. As a front-end developer, I am unsure whether this should be handled on the front end or back end. This technique is also utilized by Facebook.

To ensure optimal image quality, it is recommended to save or convert images as progressive images. This can be done using software such as Photoshop or any other image processor. When saving the image, make sure to select both the 'interlaced' and 'progressive' checkboxes. Please note that saving images as progressive may result in a slight increase in file size, typically around 10%-20%.
