What is the best method for eliminating tiny spaces between images that are aligned horizontally?

Check out this link for more details: . I am looking to eliminate the slim vertical gaps between the images in html5 without resorting to using the table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0". Any ideas on how to achieve this?

Answer №1

To eliminate any cell padding and cell spacing in the table that contains the images, you will need to adjust the table tag like this:

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">...</table>

I would advise against using a table for an image gallery. Instead, consider placing the images within a div and styling them with CSS properties such as heights, widths, paddings, and margins.

For instance:

HTML: (closing > on separate line to avoid whitespace causing gaps between inline elements)

<div class="gallery">
    <img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up"
    ><img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up"
    ><img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up"
    ><img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up"
    ><img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up"
    ><img src="Toby1.jpg" alt="Toby close-up">
</div>

CSS: (img tags set with vertical-align: bottom; to remove horizontal gap between rows)

.gallery {
    width: 900px;
    }

    .gallery > img {
        vertical-align: bottom;
        }

Example provided via JSFiddle.

Answer №2

<div style="margin:10px;">...</div>

Answer №3

I see that the link you provided is no longer working, so I can't determine if you were using table-based layout initially.

If you want to achieve the same result without relying on tables, there are two key steps you should follow:

  • Ensure that there is no space between the <img> tags to get rid of any horizontal gaps between images.
  • Place the <img> tags within a div element and apply a CSS style with line-height: 0 to remove any vertical spaces between images.

You can find an example and more detailed explanation here.
