What are some tips for keeping page content in place when the scroll bar appears?

Currently, I am undertaking a project focused on car travel at . However, I have come across an issue where the page content shifts to the left once a vertical scroll appears. How can this be prevented?

My understanding is that one option is to keep the scroll disabled initially and only enable it when needed.

Do you have any suggestions for a more effective technique to address this problem?

Answer №1

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any alternative method to achieve this without constantly displaying the scrollbar, regardless of its activity status.

One approach that seems straightforward is:

html {
    overflow-y: scroll;
}

By doing this, even on pages where scrolling isn't necessary, there will still be space allocated for the scrollbar, preventing any content shifting between different pages.
