Trouble displaying CSS content image in Internet Explorer

Usually, I use Chrome as my default browser. However, I recently decided to test whether my website functions properly on other browsers as well. In Chrome, the header displays my logo with great quality using content:url. But when I tried accessing my website on Internet Explorer 11, although I can still click on the image, it doesn't appear. You can check out my website at . Is there a compatibility issue with IE? If that's the case, is there an alternative method I can use to maintain high-quality resolution for my logo even when zoomed in? If not, what steps do I need to take to resolve this?

Answer №1

The content property is primarily intended for use with pseudo elements such as ::before and ::after. This usage is well-documented by authoritative sources including the W3C, Microsoft Developer Network, and (as referenced below) MDN:

Although Chrome does support this feature on standard elements in a non-standard way, it is recommended to adhere to the standard method of using it on pseudo elements for better cross-browser compatibility.

It is advisable to conduct thorough testing across multiple browsers early in the development process to avoid potential issues. In this scenario, relying solely on Chrome's behavior could lead to discrepancies as Firefox and Internet Explorer strictly adhere to the standard practice of applying the content property to pseudo-elements only.

Answer №2

Is it necessary to load such a large logo image? It doesn't look good even when resized smaller. You can try using background-size to resize the logo.

#pageTop > #pageTopWrap > #pageTopLogo > a {
  background: url("../images/logo.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 / 40px auto rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
  float: left;
  height: 40px;
  margin-left: auto;
  margin-right: auto;
  margin-top: 5px;
  width: 40px;

}
