Tips for updating the background color of your navigation bar:

I've been using bootstrap and I want to customize the active page background color to green, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working.

.navbar-inverse {
  color: #fff;
  background-color: #4CAF50;
}
<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse">
  <div class="container-fluid">
    <div class="navbar-header">
      <div class="logo">
        <img src="images/logo.png">
      </div>
    </div>
    <ul class="nav navbar-nav">
      <li class="active"><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
      <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
      <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
    </ul>
    <ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
      <li><a href="#"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-log-in"></span> Logout</a></li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</nav>

Even though changing the background-color in "Inspect Element" seems to work perfectly fine. I'm not sure what else to try at this point.

Thanks!

After running your code on my machine, I can confirm that it functions flawlessly.

The reason it may not be working for you is likely due to the sequence of CSS linking in your HTML file. To effectively override Bootstrap's styles, ensure that you link your custom CSS file after the Bootstrap file.

For example:

<link href="bootstrap.css" ...>
<!-- include your custom css after bootstrap -->
<link href="my-custom-style.css" ...>
