Tips for creating dynamic animations in an opencart dropdown menu

Currently, I am in the process of enhancing my ecommerce website using OpenCart and I have been trying to incorporate a simple animation for the dropdown menu. However, despite applying the transition properties in the code snippet below, it seems that the animation is not functioning as expected:

.navbar-nav > li > .dropdown-menu {
  margin-top: 0;
  border-top-left-radius: 0;
  border-top-right-radius: 0;
  transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
  -moz-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
  -webkit-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
  -o-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
  -ms-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
}

My current version is 2.2

If you're looking to animate the .dropdown-menu in Bootstrap despite its default display:none style, there is a way to do so without overriding. You can achieve the desired animation effect using the following CSS:

.navbar-nav > li > .dropdown-menu {
    display: block; /* Overriding bootstrap's display: none */
    height: 0;
    opacity: 0;
    overflow: hidden;
    transition: opacity 0.3s ease;
    -webkit-transition: opacity 0.3s ease;
    visibility: hidden;
}
#menu .dropdown:hover .dropdown-menu {
    height: auto;
    opacity: 1;
    visibility: visible;
}

Here's another example:

.navbar-nav > li > .dropdown-menu {
    display: block; /* Overriding bootstrap's display: none */
    height: 0;
    opacity: 0;
    overflow: hidden;
    transition: all 0.5s ease;
    -webkit-transition: all 0.5s ease;
    visibility: hidden;
    top: 200%;
}
#menu .dropdown:hover .dropdown-menu {
    height: auto;
    opacity: 1;
    visibility: visible;
    top: 100%;
}

Remember not to modify bootstrap files directly. Instead, add the above code snippets at the end of your theme's stylesheet: stylesheet.css
