The same size background effect

I am looking to create a list of names that are all the same size. How can I achieve this using Bootstrap?

<ul class="list-unstyled">
  <li>
    <a class="btn btn-xs btn-warning">
      <span >Loren ipsum</span>
    </a>
  </li>
  <li>
    <a class="btn btn-xs btn-warning">
      <span >Lorem ipsunis</span>
    </a>
  </li>
  <li>
    <a class="btn btn-xs btn-warning">
      <span >Lorem ip</span>
    </a>
  </li>
</ul>

Answer №1

To ensure proper sizing of your elements, it is recommended to set a width or min-width. Using min-width can be more flexible especially if the button content may vary in length. Consider adding the following code snippet to your CSS:

.btn-xs {
   min-width: 15em;
}

Keep in mind that 1em is approximately equal to the width of one "M" character in the current font. Therefore, it's important to analyze your text content for an accurate width measurement. (The value of 15 was chosen arbitrarily for illustration purposes.)

Furthermore, remember that this style, as shown above, will impact all .btn-xs elements on the page. For more specific control, consider assigning a unique class to either the buttons themselves or their parent container to target only certain instances.

Answer №2

Adjust the .btn links to have a display:block property, allowing them to expand to 100% of the parent li width. Customize your ul size as needed.

.list-unstyled li a.btn {display:block;}

One potential improvement is to assign an id to the link element like this http://jsfiddle.net/1shzc3bh/2/ and specify a width there

For example: a#button{width:150px;!important}
