Problems with H1 tag placement and SEO optimization

Here are a couple of inquiries regarding the H1 tag.

  1. Is it possible for the H1 tag to float consistently across different web browsers? Alternatively, are there other methods to achieve floating elements?

  2. Will the SEO of the H1 tag be impacted if I insert additional HTML within the tag, instead of using the title of the page or module?

Answer №1

  1. Floating works consistently across all modern browsers, and even in IE6 most of the time. Regardless of the element, all elements can be styled equally with CSS (except for form inputs and video/embed elements).

  2. There's something I'm unsure about: sometimes I place images, like a logo, inside an H1 tag. With Firefox's Web Developer Toolbar's "View document outline" function, it shows the alt-attribute of the image as the content within the H1 tag.
