Placing a piece of code within a table without any empty spaces

When including a preformatted code fragment with multiple lines and indentation, the HTML element to use is <pre>. However, I've noticed that when I place this within a table, the browser automatically adds a blank line before and after the code, even if the tags are not on separate lines. Is there a way to avoid this behavior?

Answer №1

A solution is to eliminate the default padding and margin that is automatically added to the pre element by the browser.

To achieve this, use

<pre style="padding:0; margin:0;"></pre>

If there is still extra space, include display: inline; in the style attribute, as the default is display: block;
