Place a fresh banner on top of the Ionicon icon

I recently started using Ionicons from and I am not too familiar with css. My question is, can a banner that says 'new' be overlaid on the top right corner of the Icon?

Is there a simple or standard method to achieve this? (whether it's an ionicon or a favicon)

Thank you!

To spruce up your icons, simply apply the fresh class to them:

.fresh:after {
      content: 'fresh';
      position: relative;
      top: -10px;
      left: -2px;
      background-color: coral;
      font-size: small;
 }

You have full flexibility to customize the color, position, and additional styles as desired.

.fresh:after {
  content: 'fresh';
  position: relative;
  top: -10px;
  left: -2px;
  background-color: coral;
  font-size: small;
}
<link href="http://code.ionicframework.com/ionicons/2.0.1/css/ionicons.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>

<i class="ion-ios-flask fresh"></i>
