One simple fix for removing default focus styles across all browsers

Is there a universal method to disable the default styling of focused elements across all browsers?

If not, what are some of the common styles implemented by the most popular browsers?

Answer №1

A great solution is to set the outline style to 0 on elements using the :focus selector. Here's an example:

:focus{
   outline:0;
}

This should be effective across various browsers such as IE, Opera, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Note: In order for :focus and outline to work in IE8, make sure to declare a DOCTYPE at the beginning of your HTML document - like this: <!DOCTYPE html>.

Update: It appears that using none instead of 0 also works, but 0 is the more commonly used approach.
