modify rectangular section in drupal rather than numerical block

Currently, I am attempting to modify blocks within my Drupal 7.x website using the Zen base theme. While I have been successful in adjusting the CSS styles of the blocks based on their numbers in the block.css file, I find this method quite confusing. Is there an alternative approach to altering the style of the blocks?

Answer №1

In addition to block numbers, Drupal also includes a lot of extra information for styling when generating the HTML. Take for example the default Main Menu system block:

<div id="block-system-main-menu" class="block block-system block-menu first last odd" role="navigation">
</div>

As shown above, the block name is included in the id attribute of the div, the block type is included in the class attribute of the div, giving you the option to choose which one to use.

Answer №2

Check out the useful Block class module that allows you to easily add custom classes to blocks for better theming options.
