Is there a Firefox extension for optimizing absolute CSS positioning for faster web development?

When it comes to working with CSS, I prefer using Firebug and adjusting the top and left values with the up and down arrow keys.

Has anyone found a Firefox add-on that allows me to drag elements around and then easily copy and paste the top and left values?

Edit: I have slightly modified my question from 'easier' to faster. My goal is not to find tools to help me learn CSS, but rather to speed up the positioning process!

Answer №1

I rely on the helpful MeasureIt extension for Firefox when I need to measure elements accurately. Simply drag from your desired starting point to the top left corner of the screen to obtain the precise position. It may require slight adjustments for scrolling, but it's a fairly straightforward process.

Answer №2

When it comes to measuring and designing elements for a website, I prefer using graphic design programs like Fireworks, Photoshop, or similar tools rather than working directly in the browser. Absolute positioning is not my go-to choice for layout either.

Some tools that I have found helpful in this process include:

  • MeasureIt
  • Pixel Perfect which overlays a PNG over the page
  • Various plugins for Firebug that can be found here, such as XRefresh and Firediff, depending on your specific needs

Answer №3

I created this tool because I wholeheartedly support the premise of the question. It enables users to inspect and move elements around. The updated coordinates are automatically calculated by the browser extension, enhancing the user's experience.

Answer №4

When working with Dreamweaver, you have the ability to set CSS properties to absolute positioning. This allows you to easily drag and drop elements in preview mode to place them wherever desired. The corresponding CSS code is then generated automatically with the specified top and left positions of your element.
