Image input not working in Internet Explorer

While the button displays correctly in Chrome and Firefox, it appears differently in IE:

To address this issue in IE, you may need to make adjustments to the CSS styles specifically for that browser. One potential solution could involve creating a separate set of styles targeting IE, or modifying the existing styles to ensure cross-browser compatibility.

Answer №1

The purpose of using type="image" is to function as a server-side image map, with the image's URL specified by a src attribute. Without this attribute, all styling is done through CSS, relying on browsers to handle a missing image and its alternative text (alt) consistently. However, since Internet Explorer displays an icon indicating a missing image along with the alt text, this approach will not be effective.

It would be better to use a genuine submit button instead:

<input class="greenbut" type="submit" value="Search">

You may need to adjust the CSS to accommodate for differences in default borders, margins, padding, etc.

Answer №2

Consider utilizing the <input type="submit"> element

Answer №3

Incorporate the following

<input type="hidden" value="Search" />
into your code, while excluding the alt="Search" attribute.
