IE and Firefox both render CSS styles in their own unique ways

When viewing my website acro.batcave.net on different browsers like IE (Windows 7, IE 11.x) and FF (Windows 7, FF 37.x), I noticed that it appears differently. Chrome seems to have the same display as FF. The CSS file can be found at acro.batcave.net/css/index.css. Initially, I thought the issue might be due to non-standard CSS, with the intention of using CSS3 elements. However, after running the CSS validator on W3C, no errors were found. What could be causing this discrepancy and how can I ensure that FF (and Chrome) display it similarly to IE?

Answer №1

It's a mystery how this is occurring, but when your website loads in Chrome, the CSS seems to be coming back as complete nonsense. This explains why it isn't being applied correctly.

Answer №2

If you've stored the HTML code in UTF-16 with a byte order mark, chances are the CSS code has been saved in the same manner as well. This could lead to decoding issues in browsers like Firefox and Chrome due to encoding discrepancies.

It's worth noting that most browsers do not natively support UTF-16 for data files unless explicitly specified in the link tag or header. To avoid such problems, consider saving both the HTML and CSS files in UTF-8 without including a byte order mark.
