HTML CSS margins are used to create white spaces at the edges of a webpage

My website is displaying white spaces on the edge and I want it to look seamless like this:

Does anyone know where I went wrong?

Answer №1

It appears to resemble the default margin on the <body>.

body {
  margin: 0;
}

This should resolve the issue.

Simple Example:

CSS:

html, body {
    height: 100%;
}
div {
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    background: #ddd;
}

CSS:

html, body {
    height: 100%;
}
body {
    margin: 0; /* This will eliminate the margin by setting it to 0 */
}
div {
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    background: #ddd;
}

Answer №2

Every web browser comes with its own set of default styles for elements such as the body and h1. This is known as the user agent style sheet. These default styles often include margins. If you want to reset all of the CSS styles and remove these margins, you can use the universal selector with the following code:

*{ margin: 0;}
