CSS: Conceal a column as the width shrinks

Take a look at:

When you resize the browser, the right column disappears at a certain point. It's a smooth transition and adds flexibility to the design. I didn't notice any complex CSS styles being applied here. Do you think this is done using Javascript or can it be achieved with CSS alone?

Answer №1

Utilizing only CSS, this task is achieved through the power of CSS3's Media Queries.

For more information, refer to the official specification: http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-mediaqueries/

Need a step-by-step guide? Check out this tutorial:

To ensure compatibility, review the browser support details at: http://caniuse.com/css-mediaqueries (works across most browsers, except for IE8 and earlier versions)

Answer №2

One possible explanation for the disappearing sections on the right side is due to their CSS styling:

width: 24%;
float: right;

If a fixed width had been applied instead, it would likely cause the sections to shift to the bottom of the article.
