Characters with accents appear larger compared to regular letters

Currently, I am working on a website that includes special characters like č, ď, ň, ř, š, ž. However, these special letters are appearing larger than the normal letters.

For example: https://i.sstatic.net/WBNQg.png

I have a .properties file where I input the text as shown here: https://i.sstatic.net/tTMTK.png

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? I have another website with similar content but different CMS where it displays correctly. Both sites share the same CSS and font settings.

If you have any ideas or solutions, please let me know. Thank you!

Answer №1

To locate a webfont that includes all necessary characters, one may encounter difficulties especially when anticipating historians to input linear-b, hieroglyphs and other ancient as well as modern symbols.. My understanding is that currently there is no single font encompassing the entire UTF-8 character set.

Answer №2

It seems that the font used may not have the specific character you are looking for, causing the browser to substitute it with a different font that might vary in size.

To prevent this issue, it's recommended to choose a font that includes all the necessary characters. One approach is to visit Googlefonts () and enter all the special characters needed (e.g., č ď ň ř š ž ü ä ß ©) in the input field labeled "sentence" at the top center of the page. This will showcase these characters across all available fonts, allowing you to identify which fonts contain them (and how they appear) versus those that display "?" or similar placeholders.

Answer №3

Consider utilizing the CSS Unicode range feature to your advantage.

If you come across a font with gaps or characters you dislike, you have the option to substitute them with characters from a different font.

Take a look at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@font-face/unicode-range for more information.

The unicode-range CSS descriptor allows you to specify the range of characters to be used from a font defined by @font-face and accessible on the current page. If none of the characters on the page fall within this range, the font will not be downloaded; however, if even one character is in this range, the entire font will be downloaded.
