bootstrap for building responsive websites

I am trying to modify the width of an input from 100% to 50%, and position it in the center of the page so that it remains responsive when resizing the browser window.

    <!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
    <title>test</title>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/bootstrap.css">
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css">
</head>
<body>
    <div class="container">
        <div class="row">
            <form class="form">
                <input type="email" class="form-control" id="exampleInputEmail1">
            </form>
        </div>

    </div>

    <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
    <script src="js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

If you rearrange the order of your CSS file and place it after the bootstrap CSS file in the HTML head section, it will take precedence over width styles and you may not need to use !important. This snippet makes it a bit challenging to do so.

.form-control{
  margin: auto;
  left:0;
  right:0;
  width:50% !important;
}
<div class="container">
        <div class="row">
            <form class="form">
                <input type="email" class="form-control" id="exampleInputEmail1">
            </form>
        </div>

    </div>

<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
