Are your DIVs not expanding correctly?

Currently, I am in the process of developing a fansite and I am facing an issue with the "content" class div not expanding as intended. The goal is for it to have a minimum height of 100%, but it seems like this is not happening. Additionally, I am struggling to make it stretch to accommodate the "column2" div that is located inside it. Being new to this field, I find myself at a loss when it comes to troubleshooting these problems. Sharing code examples might be challenging for me right now, so if you could please visit this link and examine the page source directly.

Answer №1

Yes, indeed it does extend all the way to the bottom — but only to the bottom of the html element. The issue arises from your right column having a position: absolute property. When an element is set to absolute positioning, it becomes detached from the normal flow, causing its container not to stretch to accommodate it (a common scenario in drop-down menus and similar features).

A better approach would be to utilize the float: right property for the right column, along with adding an empty div at the bottom styled with clear: both. This ensures that the div expands correctly within the layout.
