Adjust the x-scroll to continue infinitely while deactivating the y-scroll

Is there a method in CSS to prevent vertical scrolling and have all the contents of a div positioned next to each other so that they extend beyond the visible browser window? I would like to enable horizontal scrolling to bring them back into view. How can this be achieved?

Answer №1

Could this solution address your needs (assuming I correctly interpreted your request):

body {
  background-color: darkgreen;
  color: white;
  margin: 0;
}

.bottom {
  border-top: 1px solid white;
  width: 100%;
  overflow-y: hidden;
  overflow-x: scroll;
  white-space: nowrap;
  position: fixed;
  bottom: 0;
}

.sample_content {
  display: inline-block;
  width: 1000px;
}
<body>
  <div class="main">
    main part
    <div class="bottom">
      <div class="sample_content">
        some wide content
      </div>
      <div class="sample_content">
        some more wide content
      </div>
    </div>
  </div>
</body>

HTML

<div class='section-wrapper'>
  <div class='section-inner'>
    <!-- insert your content here -->
  </div>
</div>

CSS

.section-wrapper {
  width: 600px; /* define the width of your scrolling section */
  overflow-x: scroll;
  overflow-y: hidden;
}
.section-inner {
  width: 2500px; /* adjust the width of your scrolled content */
}
