Why does the link remain in a "visited" state even after the page is refreshed?

Incorporating the a:visited pseudo-class in CSS have led to an issue for me. It seems that even after refreshing the page, the links still maintain their red color and do not revert back to blue to indicate they have been "unvisited" again. Is this a common occurrence? Is there a way I can resolve this?

Answer №1

Welcome aboard!

The :visited pseudo-class highlights links that have been previously visited by the user in their browsing history. This styling remains even after a page reload, as seen with Google search where visited links turn purple and only change back when the browsing history is cleared.

If you're looking for alternative solutions without disclosing specifics about your setup, consider utilizing the :active or :focus pseudo-classes.
