What do the different colored highlights in Sublime Text 2 indicate?

I am facing an issue with the code in a particular file:

background: -moz-linear-gradient(red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet);

Interestingly, Sublime Text 2 appears to highlight the background of indigo and violet with a light blue color:

Upon further exploration, I found that colors like chocolate, aliceblue, pink are highlighted, but others like maroon, teal, silver are not.

I am curious to know the significance of this blue highlighting. What does it signify?

Answer №1

The list provided includes "Extended color keywords"

Popular browsers support X11 colors [X11COLORS] with the addition of gray/grey variants from SVG 1.0, resulting in a list identical to the SVG 1.0 color keyword names. This extension goes beyond SVG's definitions.

A glimpse into CSS.tmLanguage:

The visual difference is due to scoping:

invalid.deprecated.color.w3c-non-standard-color-name.css (for extended color keywords)
