Ways to maintain uniform size in displaying images even when they are of different dimensions

Within my web application, administrators have the ability to upload various images that will be displayed on the site. The challenge arises from the fact that these images come in different sizes and dimensions. However, it is important that all users who visit the site are able to view the images in a uniform size. What recommendations do you have for addressing this issue? How would you go about implementing your suggestion? The front end of the application is built with AngularJS and the backend uses Java with Spring framework. Would it be beneficial to designate a specific size for the images, or perhaps set a specific height and let the width adjust accordingly based on the image's dimensions?

Answer №1

Here is a suggestion to try:

.image {
    position: relative;
    float: left;
    width: 100px;
    height: 100px;
    background-position: 50% 50%;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-size: cover;
}

<div class="image" style="background-image:url('http://i.imgur.com/tI5jq2c.jpg');"></div>
<div class="image" style="background-image:url('http://i.imgur.com/37w80TG.jpg');"></div>
<div class="image" style="background-image:url('http://i.imgur.com/B1MCOtx.jpg');"></div>
