Tips for styling CSS on printed pages measuring 8.5x11 inches

Seeking assistance in establishing the initial DIV that will fit perfectly within the borders of a letter-sized paper. I plan to generate dynamic page content and conclude each page with `page-break-after; always;`.

I have been relying on trial and error, but I have exhausted my supply of paper for testing.

Can you provide guidance on configuring the div container so that its positions align with the paper margins?

Appreciate it!

Answer №1

With the help of a CSS reset template and by turning off "shrink to page" in print options, I have successfully created a DIV that measures 7" wide (approximately 670px) and 9.5" high (about 900px). I am able to easily position content inside this box.

The translation between the connected printers works seamlessly. From my calculations, the print DPI is around 95ppi.

#printPage
{
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 0px;
  width: 670px; /* width: 7in; */
  height: 900px; /* or height: 9.5in; */
  clear: both;
  background-color: gray;
  page-break-after: always;
}

Positioning elements like this proves effective:

#cube
{
  position: relative;
  top: 1in;
  left: 1in;
  width: 1in;
  height: 1in;
  background-color: white;
}
