Tips for adding a text input field within a dropdown menu

Could someone provide guidance on how to place an input text box within a dropdown without using bootstrap? I came across this image showing what I am looking for:

I prefer to achieve this using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have been stuck on this issue for quite some time.

Answer №1

Check out the code snippet here: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/FrTcoP

HTML elements can be nested inside each other, allowing for customization of dropdown menus:

<ul class="custom-dropdown-menu">
  <li>Option 1</li>
  <li>Option 2</li>
  <li>Another option</li>
  <li><input type="text" placeholder="Enter text here"></li>
</ul>

You can enhance the dropdown menu by adding an input field with <input type="text">.

Answer №2

If you want to achieve a dropdown menu without using bootstrap, you'll need to create your own custom CSS styles for a list element. One method to accomplish this can be found at

Once you have implemented a custom dropdown menu using CSS, you are free to include any content within it as needed.

Answer №3

For anyone looking to create a sleek dropdown menu using only CSS3, I have put together a demo with an added input feature. Below is the code snippet that you can use to achieve this effect:

/* Hide Dropdown by Default */
nav ul ul {
    display: none;
}

/* Show Dropdown on Hover */
nav ul li:hover > ul {
        display: block;
}

ul li{
 display: inline-block;
}

ul li a {
  padding: 20px;
}

ul li a:hover{
  text-decoration: none;
}

nav ul ul {
    background: #222222;
  border-radius: 0px;
    position: absolute;
}

nav ul ul li{
  padding: 15px 0;
}

nav ul ul li a{
  color: #fff;
  opacity: .5;
}

nav ul ul li a:hover{
  color: #fff;
  opacity: 1;
}
