The height of my text input box in HTML and CSS keeps fluctuating

I've encountered an issue while creating a search bar. The text input box and search button are positioned next to each other as intended, but the height of the input box fluctuates when I expand the browser window. I have thoroughly reviewed my code multiple times, but I am unable to pinpoint the root cause of this problem. Any assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated :)

Answer №1

When setting the padding, keep in mind that using a percentage value will cause it to adjust based on your document's size, impacting the input height. To prevent scaling, opt for fixed values instead.

Answer №2

When you adjust

input{
    padding: 1.5%;
}

to

input{
    padding: 6px;
}

That should resolve the issue. The previous problem was due to the padding percentage being relative to the window size.

Answer №3

The issue arises when padding: 1.5% is applied. This percentage value is in relation to the width of the parent element. Consider removing it or substituting with the em unit based on the design needs.
