Avoid using !important excessively; it should only be used as a last resort. When every CSS declaration has !important, it cancels out the effect.
Opt for more precise selectors like #id instead of resorting to !important to prioritize a specific property.
If you want to change the look of your website by importing a new stylesheet, it's important to understand the order in which styles are applied.
<head>
<title>Title</title>
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="style-override.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
</head>
In this example, style.css
contains the original styles while style-override.css
includes your customized CSS. The styles from style-override.css
will take precedence over those from style.css
, eliminating the need for using !important
.
Another approach is to use a CSS reset to remove all existing styles and start fresh with your custom styles on top of that.
<head>
<title>Title</title>
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="reset.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="style-override.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
</head>
To find a CSS reset template, visit and save it as reset.css.
Avoid using !important unless absolutely necessary. It should not be used to override all styles in a stylesheet.
Instead of trying to overwrite numerous rules, consider excluding the unnecessary ones from the beginning.
Could the CSS file link be rearranged to ensure it is the final one referenced, giving it precedence over all other CSS files listed before it?
