Is there a method, like using jQuery, to insert `<br>` tags into each line of a dropdown select list?

I need help with implementing a select tool in a limited horizontal space with each line containing a lot of information. I attempted to embed a
tag into the line but it didn't work. Are there any solutions available that could provide a simple fix, possibly using jQuery or another method?

Answer №1

It is not possible to make a select drop down item span across multiple lines by word wrapping. To achieve this, you will need to use a custom select input box. You may find this helpful.

Answer №2

Research indicates that achieving this effect is not possible with the standard <select> and <option> tags. As an alternative, consider:

  • Developing a custom pseudo <select> using <div> elements to accommodate line breaks
  • Exploring pre-made faux select options available online: Fake Select - Google
