Is it possible to showcase a FullCalendar event in full width while being positioned behind other events scheduled for the same time slot?

Is there a way to customize FullCalendar so that concurrent events in the same timeslot are not vertically divided?

I have a Google calendar named "time-blocking template" where I want all events to take up 100% of the timeslot width, even if there are other non-"time-blocking" events in the same timeslot. Other events from different Google calendars should still be split vertically if they overlap with non-time-blocking events.

In addition, I need non-time-blocking events to have an opacity setting so that I can see the "time-blocking template" events behind them. Is this something that can be achieved?

Answer №1

Incorporating FullCalendar's eventAfterRender function was key in achieving this solution.

To personalize the width of specific events, I utilized the attribute isTemplate = "true" for events associated with the "Time Blocking" calendar.

Within the eventAfterRender function, I checked if event.isTemplate == "true" and adjusted the width and left CSS properties accordingly. For events where event.isTemplate == "false", I modified the opacity to reveal the template event beneath and elevated the z-index by 1 to ensure all "non-template" events display over the "template events".

The code snippet below is integrated within my $('#calendar').fullCalendar() initialization:

eventAfterRender: function(event, element, view) {
    if(event.isTemplate == "true") {
      $(element).css('width','100%');
      $(element).css('left','0%');
    } else {
      $(element).css('opacity','0.5');

      event_zindex = $(element).css('z-index');
      $(element).css('z-index',event_zindex + 1);
    }

I hope this explanation proves beneficial to others encountering a similar challenge!
