Is it possible to assign a specific color and font style to a title tag?

Is there a way to style a page title with a different color and font in the page tab? For example:

title{ color: red; font: 12px tahoma;}

I thought it would be interesting to incorporate into websites. I attempted the code above in my CSS file, but it didn't work. I also tried giving it a class="title" and styling it with

.title{ color: red; font: 12px tahoma;}
, but that didn't have any effect either.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to style the page title. However, you can make it blink using JavaScript. Check out this script for blinking titles.

If you are using CSS to style titles, remember that if you target the title tag directly, you don't need to define a class since there is only one title tag in your document. If you are using a class like .title, your CSS should be specified accordingly.

The answers provided earlier are accurate. However, it is possible to achieve different fonts by using Unicode characters. For instance, compare the standard word javascript to this title I found in the source code of reddit.com/r/javascript:

𝚓𝚊𝚟𝚊𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚒𝚙𝚝
- you can see the subtle differences.

Without code formatting: javascript

Reddit's title without code formatting: 𝚓𝚊𝚟𝚊𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚒𝚙𝚝

You can paste these characters anywhere and they will appear distinct because they are technically different characters. There's 'a' and then there's 𝚊 - taken from the word 'javascript' I mentioned earlier.

The origins of these characters are unknown to me. I am unsure how to type them or where one could find them to copy and paste.

However, it is worth noting that any emoji can be used in these titles. You can find emojis to copy and paste from

Answer №3

When it comes to the section enclosed within the <title></title> tags, it cannot be styled.

However, if you are referring to the title of a page, such as the text within an h1 or h2 heading tag, then you can certainly customize the styling using standard CSS techniques. Here's an example:

.page-title { color: #333333; }

<h1 class="page-title">Welcome to Our Website</h1>

Answer №4

To customize the appearance of the <title> tag, you can simply include "display:block" or "display:inline" in your styling.

title {
    display:block;
    color:blue;
    font:14px Arial, sans-serif;
}

By doing so, the content of the tag will be displayed on your webpage just like the title in the browser tab.

It seems that you can also style the Page Title in some way, possibly using shadow DOM.
