Does anyone know how to create a div with a partial background like the example shown here?

I attempted to add white margin, but I'm struggling to get it right.

Answer №1

It seems that there was no code provided in the question, so I have created an example of HTML and CSS code for you. Hopefully, this code will help solve your issue.

body{
background-color: #e3e3e3;
}
.bg-container{
background-image: url("https://i.sstatic.net/Q9aDy.jpg");
width:250px;
height: 250px;
background-color: #fff;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-size: 200px;
background-position: center center;
}
<div class="bg-container">

</div>

Answer №2

To define the area of a background within a div, you can utilize background-size: width height; and background-position: x y;.

A gradient is considered an image, allowing you to treat it as a color. Use background-color to specify the backdrop behind it. To ensure it's only displayed once, use background-repeat: no-repeat.

background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-size: 80% 80%;
background-position: 50% 50%;
background-image: linear-gradient(white, white);
background-color: black;

The values in background-position determine the horizontal and vertical placement, with 50% 50% used for centering.
