How can I eliminate the negative space caused by overlapping images in CSS and HTML?

I recently designed a website and encountered an issue where negative space appeared between the last image and the Footer due to overlapping images. Is there any way to resolve this without having to remove the overlapping images completely?

Answer №1

It is not recommended to apply position:relative to an image within a <div class="ontent box">. To learn more about why this is the case, check out this informative article on CSS positioning. Instead, consider using a container with a background image and video embedded inside. You can see an example of this approach in action at http://jsfiddle.net/fliptheweb/y4Djx/

Answer №2

Your document is currently declared as xhtml strict:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

There are 49 errors and one warning in the document. I recommend validating your file, fixing the errors, and then checking if that resolves the issue. If not, feel free to ask for further assistance :)

Answer №3

The issue lies in your utilization of relative positions for multiple elements, causing them to maintain their space within the page flow.

To resolve this, group overlapping images within separate divs and apply relative positioning without altering top or bottom values. From there, position the images absolutely inside each respective div.
