How can I customize the dropdown list arrow to match my own design?

Is there a simple way to substitute the standard arrow in the dropdown menu with a custom arrow image?

Answer №1

After searching extensively, the most visually appealing solution I came across involves utilizing jQuery UI in combination with a particular plugin.

Answer №2

If you want to add some style to your standard controls, I recommend using Uniform. With JQuery, it allows you to mask your basic controls with a touch of glamor. Check it out here:

By simply adding this line of code, you can switch out your dropdown list:

$(function(){ $("select").uniform(); });

You can also customize your radio buttons and checkboxes in the same way. Plus, there are various themes available for download at the bottom of the page.

Answer №3

The appearance of the default arrow is determined by the operating system you are using. For example, Windows and Linux have their own default styling for drop down boxes.

To customize the arrow, consider using a jQuery plugin such as: http://plugins.jquery.com/taxonomy/term/463
