Having trouble placing the flash element above the HTML?

Despite my efforts to use SWFObject to embed a swf file on my webpage, it seems that the flash movie is covering some of the HTML components. Strangely enough, the HTML elements are bleeding through and appearing on top of the flash content.

I've tried adjusting various settings such as wmode, z-index, and positioning with no success in Firefox or Safari. Interestingly, Chrome behaves as expected when using wmode=window, ensuring that the flash remains on top of the HTML content.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can force Safari and Firefox to keep their HTML content behind the flash at all times?

Answer №1

Could you provide us with a sample link for reference?

Typically, you will need a combination of:

wmode:'transparent'

and:

<div class="container">
    <div class="flash">Flash</div>
    <div class="html">HTML</div>
</div>

Plus:

.flash,
.html {
    position:absolute;
    z-index:2;
    width:200px;
    height:200px;
}
.html {
    z-index:1;
}

UPDATE:

Here is a demonstration I created using SWFObject to stack Flash above HTML and implementing the solution mentioned earlier to ensure correct display:

Compatibility tested on Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE.

Answer №2

Make sure to include the wmode parameter for it to work properly as shown below:

    <object width="296" height="81"><param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
<embed src="yourFileName.swf" wmode="transparent" width="296" height="81" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" /></object>
