Floating point expansion caused by the addition of padding

Currently working on a basic 2 column layout design for a website, but ran into a hiccup. Whenever I try adding padding to the left-floated column, it ends up expanding beyond the width that I have set. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a solution to this issue yet.

Answer №1

It's important to adjust the width of your elements because padding affects the overall size when rendering a page.

For example, if you have a div that should be 200px wide with a rightward padding of 10px.

.container {
    width:200px;
    padding-right:10px;
}

The actual width of the element will end up being 210px.
