Customize your search experience with Google Custom Search Engine for Internet Explorer

Currently, I am integrating Google Custom Search (Business Edition) into my website using the Custom Element instead of the iFrame. I chose a theme that looks great on all browsers except for IE6. In IE6, the search results are displaying with the Promotion CSS.

<div id="cse" style="width:100%;"></div>

Answer №1

After some investigation, I managed to find a solution to the problem. It turns out that the issue was caused by the CSS provided by Google. Interestingly, Google no longer supports IE6 and does not even have the browser installed for testing purposes (at least that's what I've been informed).

The root of the problem lies in the inability of IE6 to handle multiple classes. If you're interested in learning more about this, check out Ryan Brill's article. In order to make the Google Custom Search CSS compatible with IE6, some adjustments need to be made to the CSS selectors.

For example: div.gs-promotion{ } should be used instead of

.cse .gs-promotion.gs-result, .gs-promotion.gs-result{ }
