Creating a cut effect on an HTML div block can add a unique and stylish touch to your design

I need to create a page with square blocks that have a specific appearance:

Can someone provide guidance on how to customize these div blocks? I want the text and content within the blocks to remain in their original format, without any transformations affecting them as background elements.

Answer №1

To prevent contents from being transformed when using CSS3 transforms, you can apply the opposite transformation to them compared to their parent element.

For instance:

.container{
    transform: skew(0deg, -5deg) ;
}
.item{
    transform: skew(0deg, 5deg) ;
}

Check out this Live Demo for a visual representation of how this works.

Hope this helps, -Ted

Answer №2

To achieve a rotating effect on a DIV, you can utilize a pseudo element and position it absolutely. Then, apply the transform property to rotate the element. I have made enhancements to the provided jsFiddle example with a demonstration: http://jsfiddle.net/2bZAW/3449/

div:after {
    content: '';
    position: absolute;
    bottom: 15px;
    left: -25px;
    height: 100px;
    width: 110%;
    background-color: yellow;
    transform: rotate(-5deg);
}
