Attempting to apply a minimum width to a th element using the min-width property

I'm trying to set a width for the second th element in this table, but it's not working as expected.

 <th style="min-width: 50px">
    Date from
 </th>

Can anyone provide assistance with this issue?

Answer №1

Both the second and third columns are filled with input elements, causing browsers to automatically adjust the column width. However, to avoid potential issues, you can manually set the column width while using table-layout: fixed on the table element. Keep in mind that this approach may lead to content overflow or truncation.

To achieve the best results, it is recommended to specify the width of the input type=text elements by adding the attribute size=10. For precise sizing, consider applying font-family: Consolas, monospace in CSS for these elements. This way, you can eliminate the need for explicit width settings in the column.

Answer №2

One alternative option is to insert a DIV-container inside the TD-Element and specify the min-width of the DIV. This way, you can avoid using table-layout: fixed, which requires setting width and height for almost every TD in the table. It can become quite messy if done for each TD.
