Achieving and maintaining the center alignment of a horizontal dropdown menu

Struggling with creating a fixed, 100% width nav bar that stays centered when the page is resized? The drop down menu headings are causing issues as they seem to float left instead of staying centered. Not sure how to fix it?

Take a look at the live result and review the code for more information.

I've tried multiple solutions but everything I attempt breaks the drop-down menu attachments to the menu headings. Any advice or help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Answer №1

You've already set text-align:center on the ul, which is a good initial step. To further center the navigation items, add the following:

#menu li {
    display:inline-block;
    float:none; /* alternatively, remove the float property */
}

In addition, make sure to remove the following code as it is causing layout issues and rendering the first link unclickable:

#menu {
    left: -20px;
}

Furthermore, there seems to be some extra padding applied when hovering over the list items, causing them to "jump". It's recommended to address this issue to ensure that the links remain stable without any movement.
